5 things I've learned so far

At the end of day 3, I thought I'd share 5 key things I've learned so far.

  1. Climbing mountains with a 20kg bag is HARD.

  2. People who run campsites like Mags from Aberporth Cottages and Sea View Camping will go out of their way to accommodate you.

  3. Sleeping in a tent in March is cold.

  4. This deserves going twice - carrying a 20kg bag is HARD.

  5. Eating a Dehydrated All Day Breakfast bag isn't as bad as it sounds... or I was just starving and thought it was an actual English breakfast.

Day 2: Aberporth to New Quay

I woke up with no snow on Saturday morning which made a change from the night before. I'd spent the night trying to stay flat, as I'd stupidly pitched up on a slant, so had to try and sleep diagonally in the tent. My 22km / 14 mile journey across breathtaking cliff tops from Aberporth to Cei Newydd / New Quay started well, cutting through Tresaith and meandering through a small forest.

With thanks to my Northern Eye Ceredigion Coast Path Guide Book, I knew I was in for a very steep day full of constant climbing. It didn't make it any easier and before long I was out of breath and wondering why I was putting myself through this.

Stopping to take in the views (and to take the bag off for 5 mins to stretch) I was blown away by the scenery and remembered exactly why I chose the Ceredigion Coast section of the Wales Coast Path to do my challenge.

A call to Base Camp (my parents in Rhoose) when I reached Llangrannog Urdd centre, boosted spirits and spurred me on for the final 9.5miles.

Arriving at Tŷ Rhos Campsite in New Quay to a Pod and some warmth, I was overjoyed. Heading into town for a pint and some food, I felt good being back at one of my favourite places in Cymru.

Day 3: New Quay to Llanrhystud

For what was meant to be a a shorter day of just under 14 miles, due to diversions day 3 ended up being 17 miles of walking through woodland, up hills, on pebble beaches and through farmland.

Today was an exciting day as I was being met half way at Aberaeron by family members, Teresa and Nigel, who were collecting my bag and dropping it to Morfa Farm Caravan Park.

After an easier walk than the day before, with the sun making it feel like summer and incredible views to my left, I felt good and ready to meet Teresa and Nigel in Aberaeron.

After a lovely catch up and some company for a half hour walk to Aberarth (without my bag!) and some delicious homemade sandwiches, I waved goodbye to the support team and went on my way to Llanrhystud.

A relatively flat 6 miles later through farmland and with a couple of diversions through the amazing small villageof Llanon, I was excited to arrive to Morfa Farm and head to The Black Lion for some food.
